Liaison Offices

As part of the preliminary ceasefire agreement signed on 12th January 2012, the Karen National Union (KNU) and the Burma/Myanmar Government agreed to open liaison offices in key areas. These liaison offices play a crucial role in implementing the ceasefire agreement by fostering communication and ensuring compliance with the agreement terms. The liaison offices are essential for reporting misunderstandings, preventing a return to armed conflict, monitoring the ceasefire, and consulting with local civil society organizations and international NGOs (INGOs). They act as vital bridges for peacebuilding and fostering collaboration
