KNU Liaison Offices


Kyaukkyi Liaison Office

As part of the preliminary ceasefire agreement, the KNU and Burma/Myanmar Government agreed to opening liaison offices. The liaison offices are an essential element for the KNU in implementing ceasefire agreements with the government in key areas. The Liaison Offices are needed to report misunderstandings and a return to armed conflict, monitor the ceasefire and consult with local civil society and INGOs.

There have been six Karen liaison offices that have opened since signing the preliminary ceasefire agreement on 12th January 2012 and they are:

  • (1) Dawei Liaison Office
  • (2) Hpayarthonesu Liaison Office
  • (3) Myawaddy Liaison Office
  • (4) Hpa-an Liaison Office
  • (5) Thaton Liaison Office
  • (6) Kyaukkyi Liaison Office
