Karen Unity

Karen National Dialogue Convening Committee (KNDCC)


On the 21 November 2016 at Lay Kay Kaw, the 3 Karen Ethnic Armed Organisations (KEAO’s), KNU, KNU/KNLA-PC, DKBA formed an alliance the Karen National Dialogue Convening Committee (KNDCC) in order to support and implement Karen National Dialogue meetings in different regions based on the ethnicity.


The KNDCC then formed a steering committee, convening committee, sub-committee for each sectors and administration team to carry out the KNDCC’s responsibilities. Within the Committee, members include representatives from political parties, KCSOs, Karen Unity & Peace Committee (KUPC), Women and Technical Teams. The aim of the Committee is inclusive participation and Karen Unity of all Karen people across the country in the Peace Process.


Objectives

(1)To discuss the basic principles and policies on the 4 Sectors - Political Sector, Economic Sector, Social Sector, and Land and Natural Resources Sector according to the Karen people’s desire. Finding common vision of representatives from each Karen Region and summitting the conclusion papers through the Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee UPDJC – EAOs to the Union Peace Conference (UPC).

(2)To empower the constitutional basic principles and policies for a future democratic and federal union.

(3)To carry out consultations regarding the Peace Process and increase  civilian participation within the Peace Process.


Formation of the Committees

The KNDCC Steering Committee consists of three representatives from KEAOs, four representatives from Karen Political Parties, one representative from KCSOs and one representative from Women with a total of 9 members. The Convening Committee was formed with the nine representatives from KEAOs, four representatives from Karen Political Parties, one representative from KCSOs, one representative from KUPC and nine focal persons from each different regions with a total of 24 members.


The Sub-committee was formed with focal members from the nine different regions in order to implement the responsibilities of the 4 sectors of Karen National Dialogue Meetings.  The Technical Team supports the administration and committee members when conducting dialogue meetings.
