The Karen National Union (KNU), Win Yay Township, Dooplaya District organised and held a Basic Political Training for KNU Township members. The objective of the workshop was for participants to know and understand the constitution, policies and objectives of KNU following the 16th Congress of Karen National Union.
The Chairman of Win Yay Township, P'doh Saw Maung Shwe, who held the training, said that they held the workshop for all levels of KNU leaders to give awareness and share information regarding the constitution, policies and objectives of the KNU. By holding this workshop, he hoped that they would understand and support the activities of the Peace Process.
The participants discussed on each topic while the facilitators led the training according to the agenda.
P’doh Saw Maung Shwe also remarked: "Some of the participants actively participated and some were new members, so they did not discuss as actively".
60 participants from Township Standing Committees, staff from each department, village leaders and new generation attended the training that was held over five days from the 15 to 20 May 2019.
The main topics of the training were;
1. KNU Constitution,
2. KNU Policies and Activities,
3. KNU Future Plans,
4. Struggles of the KNU in the Peace Process.
The facilitators were P'Doh Saw Liston, P'Doh Mahn Kennedy and Naw Eh Paw Wah.
