The Karen National Union led by Chairman General Saw Mutu Sae Poe met with National League for Democracy Chairperson Daw Aung San Suu Kyi yesterday from 4 pm to 6.30 pm at her residence in Naypyidaw. The 11 member KNU delegation included KNU General Secretary P’doh Saw Kwe Htoo Win, Central Executive Committee Members Col. Saw Roger Khin, P’doh Saw Tah Doh Moo and Central Standing Committee Member P’doh Saw Shwe Mawn.
Both sides had a frank and open discussion on the peace process, the nationwide ceasefire agreement, 2008 constitution amendments and 2015 elections. When asked by the media following the meeting, P’doh Saw Kwe Htoo Win said, "We discussed the 2008 constitution, the peace process and the upcoming general elections this year. We openly exchanged our views and built better understanding. We will continue to have regular communication between us".
The Karen National Union met NLD twice in the past but this is the first meeting between KNU Chairman General Saw Mutu Sae Poe and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi since he took office in December 2012 following the KNU's 15th Congress and Election.
